The Life of L 2012

October 26, 2012

First walk with Mama, Dada, and Della – early polling place, pumpkin park, Sendik’s (Della’s first walk destination too).

Happy 1st Halloween! You wore a little “Baby’s 1st Halloween” onesie and a kitty-cat hat. 1 week-ish dr appt – already up to 8 lbs. 5 oz., 13 oz. more than you weighed at your 2 day post-hospital checkup the week before!

First major outing – visit to Daddy’s office then lunch out at Honeypie with Mama, Dada, Grandma, and Della. Took your first bottle at lunch. Belly button scab fell off that night, looked just a little raw and sore, but a bandage helped it heal nicely by the following morning.

First time skipping one of your nightly wake ups. Slept from just before 10 pm until 3 am. Usually you’re up to eat around 11 before the first early morning wake up.

November 11, 2012

You slept for a 5 hour stretch last night! About 9:30-2:45. Too bad I didn’t go to bed until 11:30 to take full advantage of it. For the better part of this past week you’ve dropped your first night feeding, which had been around 11. Now you usually eat sometime between 8-9 then sleep until 1-2, with your next wake up around 4-5. I can’t wait until you start stringing a couple of those 5 hour stretches together.

For all your good sleeping, man do you wake up mad sometimes! You also still do a lot of really fast breathing, which doesn’t help you calm down at all. Your congestion seems better, but you still grunt, snort, and generally sound like an 80 year old man when you sleep. And your right eye is still goopy/watery from the clogged tear duct. Hopefully those will all subside on their own. Happy 3 week birthday!

You just really like to wake up mad. I’m not sure why. It’s nice here. You still tend to have what I call tsunami barfs – seemingly everything you’ve ever eaten comes pouring out your mouth and nose. Fortunately when it happened today I had you near the kitchen sink, getting ready to give you a bath anyway. You have some baby acne happening on your face, too, that I’m hoping to discover how to make go away.

The last little piece of your belly button scab came off today, and you have a very nice belly button too, just like Della. You slept another 5 hour stretch last night, too. Fortunately I took better advantage, went to bed about 45 minutes into it, and got 4.5 hours of sleep at once. Ahh… Now let’s get that up to about 8 hours in a row and Mama will be very happy. 😉

Happy 1 month birthday, little one! For posterity, you are waking up twice a night right now – eating and going to bed roughly around 9 pm, waking around 2-3 to eat, and then again around 5-6 before your morning wake up around 8ish. Then you usually take a morning nap for 2-3 hours, but the rest of your day is kind of hit or miss. We haven’t quite gotten into a schedule after that first nap – sometimes you’re up for long stretches, sometimes you sleep most of the day. But one thing has become fairly constant – you do not like to be put down for long. You usually start fussing within a few minutes of leaving our arms, which tends to make for fussy days. You do enjoy being in the sling and carrier though, so I use those frequently when I need to get stuff done around the house. Hopefully it all evens out soon and you get a little happier. I’m pretty sure you don’t have colic though, thankfully. Della had dropped one of her night feedings by two months, so my fingers are crossed that you do the same. I love you dearly, but I can’t wait for longer stretches of sleep!

November 22, 2012

Happy 1st Thanksgiving, dear little Lana! Our little turkey #2! You also slept in the crib for the first time tonight. Nighttime changes in the bassinet were just becoming too much of a pain. You did great – usual wake up schedule, and even a little longer morning sleep in for me. Thank you!

November 24, 2012

You slept for your first 6 hour stretch last night, from ~10-4. Of course I was only in bed for 4 of those hours, but if you start stringing those together that would be great. You also took your first bath in the bathtub that Della uses today. The sink was just getting a little too cramped for you already.

November 27, 2012

You only woke up once last night! You slept from 9:30-3, then ~3:20-8ish. I thought you were waking up around 5:30, but I just let you grunt and snort around a bit since your eyes weren’t open, and I guess it worked. Unfortunately Della woke up crying at 1 so I was still up twice last night, but hopefully we’re getting closer to dropping one of your nightly wake ups. Della had dropped one of her two nightly ones by 2 months.

We had your 1 month checkup yesterday too. The doctor said it was a perfect checkup, stats as follows:

  • Weight: 10 lbs., 3.5 oz. (75%)
  • Height: 21.5″ (50%)
  • Head: 38 cm (75%)

No more stomach sleeping she said, though, and we need to start your vitamins. The drops are so gross though, and I’m sure you’ll hate them as much as Della did, so I’m going to start giving you 1 bottle a day to put them in it. I’ll just pump more to keep the stock up.

You slept 7 straight hours last night! And I finally did too!!

***

November 30, 2012

6 hours last night, but 2 wake ups. That’s getting better, though, so I’ll take it. You’ve been unusually non-nappy today, however, so I’m hoping that by falling asleep after eating at 7:30 you may just be out for a while. We’ll see.

December 2, 2012

You did not end up sleeping for a while the other night. In fact, you slept terribly and woke up for your first feeding much earlier than usual. However, last night you gave us another 7 hour stretch at first, from 9:30-4:30. I  was very happy with that since we were up late watching the Badgers win the Big Ten championship game to go to the Rose Bowl!! And today you smiled for the first time! A big huge gummy grin. And it wasn’t just a fluke – I’ve seen a couple more. So cute!

December 3, 2012

You turned 6 weeks old yesterday. And you slept a 6 hour stretch then almost a 4 hour stretch. I love the 1 wake up nights.

***

December 4, 2012

Another almost 6.5 hour stretch last night – bed at 9:30, up just after 3:30, up again just before 8. And your first trip to see Santa today. You slept through the whole thing.

***

December 9, 2012

Happy 7 week birthday! To celebrate, you slept through almost the whole night last night. Thank you!! You slept for 8 hours, from just before 9:30 until just before 5:30. It was great timing, too, because I have my first cold of the season and needed some good sleep.

***

December 10, 2012

Another 8 hour night. Excellent! Just after 9 until just after 5. Keep it up, little one!

***

December 13, 2012

After two 8 hour nights in a row, you decided to go back to waking up twice. Hmpf. Actually, maybe it counts as waking up once, except I don’t get out of bed at 6:30 right now if I don’t have to. You’ve woken up around 2 and 6-7 the past two nights. Maybe the cold we’re all sharing right now is throwing your sleeping pattern off, but hopefully you’ll even back out soon.

***

December 15, 2012

Back to 1 wake up. I just wish I could push your bedtime up a little. I’d prefer you went to bed around 8 instead of 10, then woke up once whenever, then woke up again around 8. Right now on nights you wake up once it’s usually bedtime around 10, wake up around 3-4, wake up again around 7-8, then take your morning nap until anywhere from 10-noon. But if you keep up that long morning nap, I’ll keep the 10:00 bedtime.

December 16, 2012

Happy 8 week birthday! You have loved meeting Grandpa Frank this weekend and spending lots of time in his arms. We borrowed a swing from one of the neighbors today, since you don’t like to be put down or be sedentary very much, and so far you like it. You cried a little shortly after we put you in it for the first time, but once you had a few sucks on your blue you fell asleep and have seemed to be content since.

December 21, 2012

Happy 2 month birthday, little one! We had your 2 month checkup the other day, and you’re growing so fast! 23.25″ long and weighing in at 11 lbs. 2.75 oz. Almost 2″ longer than your 1 month checkup! And I think you’ve finally dropped that second early morning wake up. So that was around 8 weeks consistently. Now you’re to bed around 9, waking around 3-4, then up around 7-8. If the wake ups happen toward the earlier end of those ranges you’ll usually go down again for a good morning nap; if the wake ups are toward the later end of the ranges you tend to stay up in the morning for awhile before your mid-day nap.

***

December 23, 2012

Happy 9 week birthday! You’re starting to stay awake longer during the days, but fortunately your nights are staying really good. You had an 8 hour stretch last night, followed by 4 more hours, which was great!

December 24, 2012

Merry Christmas Eve! I’m thrilled to be celebrating your first Christmas tomorrow!! We love you so much, little Lana.

***

December 28, 2012

Its getting easier and easier to make you smile, which is so fantastic. I don’t think I’ve heard an actual non-sleeping laugh yet, but I think it’s getting close. We had a great first Christmas with you. You spent the morning in Grandma’s arms while everyone opened presents. You and she were very content and happy. 😉

December 31, 2012

I doubt I’ll be on here tomorrow, so Happy New Year, little Lana! Your morning smiles brighten my days, and I love you so much.
