Friday Funk – 18 weeks

Moving right along with Dv2.0…

  • How far along?  18 weeks, 6 days
  • Total weight gain: Haven’t weighed myself this week, but hopefully it’s not a whole lot more than the 15 lbs. (ugh!!) I was up as of last week. As you can see though, my butt has begun its expansion again. Why? I’m not carrying a baby back there, geez.
  • Maternity clothes?  More and more. I’ll take stretchy pants over regular ones held up with a Be-Band any day, so they’re becoming a staple. With D I didn’t wear maternity pants exclusively until 22 weeks, but I doubt I’ll last that long this time. Regular tops are still fine. I did just buy a whole new round of maternity gear this week so I am looking forward to its arrival.
  • Stretch marks?  Thankfully, no. I didn’t get any from D, so hopefully Dv2.0 doesn’t give me any either.
  • Sleep:  When D sleeps through the night (which is almost always), it’s pretty good. Sometimes I have to get up to pee, but that isn’t a constant yet.
  • Best moment this week:  Getting my hair trimmed and the grays covered back up tonight. Finally! (yes, i get my hair dyed while pregnant. it’s ok.)
  • Miss anything?  Beer, especially now that the weather’s warming up.
  • Movement:  Started feeling some tiny flutters here and there during week 16, which is about 3-4 weeks earlier than I felt D move. Still not very regular or strong yet.
  • Cravings:  In general, no, but when I get really hungry I want protein – meat, cheese, etc.
  • Aversions:  Food, no. Smells, not nearly as bad as last time, fortunately. I just get sick of scents quickly and have to get rid of them completely.
  • Gender:  Not finding out.
  • Labor signs:  No.
  • Symptoms:  Still a little heartburn off and on, but it’s pretty fleeting. I have started getting sacro-iliac pain already though, which is much earlier than I experienced it with D. Especially if I’m really active during the day, it hurts my butt to stand up and walk by the night. Literally.
  • Belly button in or out?  In. Never went fully out with D, just a little crooked.
  • Wedding rings on or off?  On.
  • Looking forward to:  Ultrasound next week.

Friday Funk – 17 weeks

Well I’m really closer to 18 weeks, since that’s how far along I’ll be tomorrow, but I obviously don’t have a picture from that yet. So you’ll just have to do with an almost week lag.

I have some comparison shots for you, though, between the day we found out I was pregnant and last Saturday’s 17 week pic. And I did find one of those little surveys that I filled out below. Almost halfway, wow!

  • How far along?  17 weeks, 6 days
  • Total weight gain: I’m actually really embarrassed to reveal this, and I usually couldn’t care less about telling people my weight. But I’ve gained 15 lbs. so far!! Ugh. This better slow down – I gained 33 total with D, so I’m almost halfway there now but not even to the halfway mark of this pregnancy!
  • Maternity clothes?  Some. I got some maternity capris that I love, so I will be wearing those and my gauchos much more frequently now. I have noticed that my pants/shorts are starting to get tighter in the butt, but at least that didn’t happen nearly as quickly this time as it did with D. Tops, I’m still fine wearing regular ones.
  • Stretch marks?  Thankfully, no. I didn’t get any from D, so hopefully Dv2.0 doesn’t give me any either.
  • Sleep:  When D sleeps through the night, it’s pretty good. Fortunately her wake-ups are back to her normal zero lately now that the HFM subsided. Sometimes I have to get up to pee, but that isn’t a constant yet.
  • Best moment this week:  Um, it’s Friday? 🙂
  • Miss anything?  Beer, especially now that the weather’s warming up, and oddly enough sushi. Sushi isn’t even one of my favorite or most frequent meals, but lately I’ve been thinking how good it would taste.
  • Movement:  Started feeling some tiny flutters here and there last week, which is about 3-4 weeks earlier than I felt D move.
  • Symptoms:  Nausea is finally gone, THANK GOD. And I feel pretty much back to normal. A tiny bit of heartburn here and there, but nothing major. Kind of weird, too, because I didn’t have any of that until the 3rd trimester with D.
  • Belly button in or out?  In. Never went fully out with D, just a little crooked.
  • Wedding rings on or off?  On.
  • Looking forward to:  My next appointment and ultrasound in a week and a half. And a long weekend for Memorial Day!

Ode to daycare

Oh, our daycare, we do love it so.

D loves to constantly learn and play and grow.

She whines a little when we arrive,

But after hand washing she’s off to thrive.

Her days are filled with art and song,

And sometimes she acts like she’d rather stay there all night long.

The teachers in all of her rooms so far

Have been absolutely wonderful – right now she’s a Shining Star.

But there’s just one thing about which I need to complain.

And no, it’s not that today’s filled with rain.

You see this thing keeps happening;

This thing which does not make my heart sing.

Every couple weeks the tell-tale signs begin –

Coughing, sneezing, snot rivers down to D’s chin.

Her excellent sleep patterns are soon replaced

By this screaming monster whom I’d like to punch in the face.

Not one night has gone by this week

Where we haven’t awoken to her midnight shriek.

“No, not again, go back to sleep!” I silently pray.

For I know this will lead to yet another horrible day.

A double ear infection, pink eye, and yes, she’s on meds.

Unfortunately they haven’t yet helped to calm her nighttime head.

I, too, now feel the beginning of this damn stupid cold,

And these aches, pains, and bloodshot eyes are getting quite old.

So dear daycare, you’re the best, but give me a break!

I don’t know how much more sickness our little family can take.

Your kids are all cute, I’m not gonna lie.

But I’m now pretty certain they can all shoot biological-warfare grade snot straight out of their eye.

Friday Funk – Feelin’ green

That’s been me this week, hence the lack of posting. I just haven’t felt up to it. I think it’s just residual effects of the cold I had a few weeks ago, but I’ve just felt blah.

And has this week seemed to take forever to get over with to anyone else? I swear it felt like about 8 weeks packed into one.

But anyway, I did want to get a couple things up here for you before we roll into the weekend…

A few weeks ago I participated in a blogger care package swap type deal, and I wanted to show off what I received from the lovely Amanda at Ninth Street Notions:

Isn’t that great?! We were told to send 5 items – an accessory, a paper/office/craft product, a food item, something that represents the area in which you live, and a beauty item. She lives in Oregon, so she sent along the beautiful Cowboys & Indians magazine. And that chocolate bar? Delicious!

It was a fun way to meet a new blogger and get a little treat in the process.

What else?

Oh yeah – of course tomorrow’s St. Patty’s Day. Yippee! What better excuse to drink green beer and eat reubens? Yum. It was green day at daycare today, but unfortunately D has no green clothing. So she wore a little Brewers onesie that in green says, “100% Organic Fan”. It’s organic cotton – get it? So clever. And little green accents on her socks. Hey, I do what I can.

And it’s March Madness, always a great time of year. I actually didn’t fill out a bracket for the first time in a long time, but I still love following along. Badgers won their first round game against Montana yesterday, so let’s hope they can pull off a similar outcome tomorrow against Vanderbilt. That’ll be a little tougher, but there’s no way I can root against Bucky.

Have a great weekend!

Friday Funk – Things I Can’t Say edition

A few weeks ago, the beautiful Shell of Things I Can’t Say invited me to do a guest post on her blog. I was flattered and thrilled! And I am pleased to announce that today is my day.

This is only my 2nd guest post anywhere, ever, so I’m a little nervous. Please excuse my sweaty palms and twisty stomach. I really hope I don’t disappoint!

Now if you would be so kind, please head over to Things I Can’t Say and see what I have to say about mawage… er, marriage.

Friday Funk – 7×7 edition

Yep, that’s right, I’ve been tagged again.

This one’s a little different, but I’m still not doing the tagging part at the end. Yes, I would love to know 7 more things about 7 more people, but I really don’t even know where I’d begin picking who to tag. So you’ll just have to deal with that.

But here’s the rest of it…

7×7 Blog Award

Thank the person who nominated you: That would be the lovely *Bleep* over at *Bleeping* Amazing. She’s a military mama who blogs anonymously to protect her family, something I totally dig. She’s got some great stories of life raising a pair of boys, so please go check her out.

Hmm, this one’s tough, because a lot of you know me in real life and I’m a pretty open book, but I’ll give it a shot…

  1. I hate using knives. If I can cut something with just a fork, I will.
  2. I failed to make the cheerleading squad in 7th grade because I forgot to pack white socks to change into with my tryout outfit. I guess thick green wool socks are frowned upon in the cheerleading world.
  3. I sideswiped a van in a Subway parking lot on the very first day I had my driver’s license. The very first day!! Ugh.
  4. For as good a swimmer as I am, foreign bodies of open water TOTALLY freak me out. I hate swimming in lakes with which I’m not familiar, and if I get stuck in a patch of seaweed, I will likely start crying if you don’t get me out immediately. I’m not kidding.
  5. I love sports cars and driving fast. If I could afford one, I would get a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Lotus, Maserati, or other such sweet ride in a heartbeat, then proceed to blow your doors off the line.
  6. I can’t drive stick. Guess I’d better work on that if I’m going to roll on dubs in a Lambo.
  7. I can wiggle my ears and plug my nose without using my fingers. That latter skill has come in EXTREMELY handy since having a child. I rarely smell a poopy diaper.

So there ya have it. Did you learn anything else about me? Like I said, I’m skipping the tagging because I can.

Thank you for the award, *Bleep*!

I am always beyond flattered when someone says I inspire them. Because to me, all I’m doing is sitting over here telling my crazy little stories. So knowing that others are out there reading and enjoying them totally makes me smile.

Friday Funk – 11 things edition

So I’ve been tagged to do an “11 random things about you” post. When I saw that I immediately groaned and thought, “Ugh, I hate these things.” They always remind me of chain letters. Yuck.

But then I realized I’ve never really done an “about me” post. I mean, I have an About Me page up there that you can go check out, but I’ve never actually been prompted to break much down for you out here. Especially with totally random questions. So I guess you’re now in for a treat!

The rules of this tagging involved me reposting said rules and then tagging others, but I’m skipping that part. ‘Cause I can.

So I present to you “11 Random Things About ScooterMarie”:

1: Wine…Red or White?

Hmm. I like most all wine, but I’m actually gonna have to go white here. And sweeter white at that. (i can hear all you red wine lovers shrieking and shattering your wine glasses from here) Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Prosecco, and most especially ice wine. I am hugely partial to champagne, too, but I guess that’s not technically a wine? Whatever.

2: What is your favorite wine or libation?

Oops, I guess I just listed a bunch of wines in #1, but one in particular I love is Door Peninsula Winery’s Summer Splash. Oh yes – white, sweet, fruity, cold, delicious. Perfect summer wine for me. And I am a huge fan of good microbrews as well. Not too picky there, and I’m becoming more and more fond of stouts and porters when I used to loathe dark beers.

3: Have you been to any wineries or wine tasting?

I have. I’ve been to a couple wineries in Door County, WI, which are actually quite excellent. You can find a list of some here. Have I been wine tasting? Does Saturday night at my house count? 😉

4: Favorite pair of shoes?

Right now it’s my Blowfish Brille booties. These things are awesome. I’ve wanted them for a couple years since I saw a similar pair one of my sisters has, and she got them for me this past Christmas. Score! They are really quite comfortable, and the wedge heel makes my size 11 feet look TINY!

5: What is your morning drink?

Well it used to be an iced chai latte, since I’ve always hated coffee. But then I discovered pumpkin spice creamer and that all changed. (i still don’t like the taste of coffee, just the creamer) I’ve been trying to lessen my caffeine addiction though, so right now it’s a homemade Dunkin’ Donuts decaf latte with pumpkin spice creamer, until it runs out. Then I might cry.

6: Tattoos, body piercings, or both…and where?

Both. I have 3 tattoos (dolphin on back of right hip, Kokopelli on front of left hip, University of Wisconsin motion W with a wave underneath it on inside of left ankle) and 4 piercings (2 in each ear, 1 ear has 1 low and 1 high). I almost pierced my eyebrow in college, but the shop was closed the day I went. Maybe that was a sign…

7: Favorite dessert?

Umm, you’re making me choose? Yeah right. Oh, actually, I’ve got it – birthday cake from Trefzger’s, a bakery in Peoria, IL.

8: What is your dream vacation…money is no object!

Full tour of Italy, on my own schedule.

9: If you won the lottery…

I’d pay off our house, sock away a bunch for future college payments, then never go to work again!!

10: Do you talk to yourself?  If so, do you answer yourself too?

In my head, yes. It’s usually conversations/arguments I’d have with someone in real life, so there isn’t much answering of myself needed. I’m always right in those.

11: Would you ever sneak a giant metal rooster into your house?

Nope!

So what’d ya think? Fun stuff, eh? That was actually much less painful than I expected. Yes, I am a pretty random (yet highly entertaining!) individual. Have a great weekend!

p.s. this list of random came to you courtesy of the lovely Suzanne over at The Wine{a}be.
