Sounds good, right? Who doesn’t want well health? Well now Walgreens is partnering with AARP to bring well health right here to Milwaukee. Excellent!
You know those pink mammogram mobiles? This is very similar, except instead of squeezing your boobs in their fleet of customized vehicles, they provide free health tests to aid in the prevention and early detection of some of today’s leading diseases – heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Did you hear me? FREE!
That’s right – this is a free service, and your insurance will not be billed. In fact, no insurance is even necessary to participate. From now through the end of the year, the tour will provide free tests, assessments, education, and consulting services to communities located predominantly in cities with both the highest prevalence for leading diseases and the highest uninsured and unemployed populations. Milwaukee has made the list, and the fleet will be around here from 7/12 through 8/4.
So what’s in it for you? I’m so glad you asked. Here are the major benefits participants will receive:
- Free health tests and risk assessments designed to provide personal health insights that may indicate symptoms and potential risks for cancer, heart disease, and diabetes
- Total cholesterol
- Glucose
- Blood pressure
- Body mass index
- Body composition
- Skeletal muscle
- Resting metabolism
- Visceral fat
- Real body age
- Body weight
- Consultation with a Walgreens pharmacist or certified wellness staffer about your results right after the tests
- A free, one-year AARP membership (don’t worry, if you’re under the age of 50 you can pass the free AARP membership on to an eligible adult. existing members will receive a one year extension on their current membership)
The bundle of tests you will receive is valued at over $100, but remember, for you they’re FREE! They take about 20 minutes to administer, and then afterwards you’ll have your consultation to go over the results. No appointment is needed, just drop on by. Anyone 18 years or older is encouraged to visit the tour. Like I said, it sounds like a good deal, doesn’t it?
But what to do if you can’t make it to one of the tour stops, yet still want to help get involved? Have no fear, that’s easy too! This community outreach program is partially funded by consumers. From now through January 31, 2013, 1¢ from the purchase of every Walgreens brand health and wellness product, up to $3 million annually, will support bringing preventive wellness services to local communities through the Walgreens Way to Well Fund®. So get shopping!
I know this is a lot of info to take in about an extremely worthwhile program, so here is a great little clip to help summarize all of the pertinent info for you:
Walgreens also has a wealth of information on their Way to Well campaign page. Especially check out the article excerpt on the right hand side – tons of details abound in there.
